Proper procedure for returning tags

Caught and released a tagged fish Sat night. Before letting it go, I measured, weighted it on my boga, and cut the tag off. Tag is bright yellow and has some coding on it.

What's the next step? I assume I mail it somewhere along with the length/weight & date/location caught. How do I find out where to send it? Are their websites I can go on to punch the data in? I'd like to find out where the fish was originally caught myself.

ALS wants the tag back to be sure you did really catch the fish.

You will receive a neat gold fish patch and what ever info the tagger sent in.

I find tagging slows me down, blitz or slow day, no matter.

Return tag to address with info, location ,weight, length. The address should be on tag. Berkley striper clubs tags are yellow.

Since I hit this last I have been in contact with the American Littoral Society. They had a question on one of "my" tags. I was sure of what I had tagged and when. It turns out that the number on the returned tag was too hard to read and they had the wrong tagger. So if the experts can't get the number right without serious magnification, you can't be trusted to get it right, between tail slaps. If you have any tags in your glove box, tackle box or fish jacket pocket, please send them in with all the information you have.

And I got two more tags back, Thanks Guys.

Peace
