Cool Hand Fluke
20 State Champions to be decided over the next month. This not a debate about the format. That is what it is. North 1, North 2, Central, South and Non Pub (each with 4 groups based on size) The closest thing to a true state wide champs are the non pub titles as they cover the whole state. Round one starts this weekend... Two weeks of playoffs before Thanksgiving day games then the champisonship games the first weekend of December. Anybody attending any games this weekend? The Fluke's are pulling for the #1 seed in the Non Pub Group 3 (Saint Joe's Montvale) We have Delabrton at home this Saturday. Fluke is also pulling for his alma matter The Number 3 seed in the South Jersey Group 2. Point Pleasant Boro (7-1 with only thee points allowed THE ENTIRE SEASON, a field goal given in a 3-0 loss to Manasquan) Living on the right side of the bell curve for over half a century... Billy 40
Are there any nationaly ranked teams again this year? Usualy NJ has at least 1, usually Top 5. Cool Hand Fluke
Depending where you look NJ has one school nationally in the top 25 High Schools in the Country. Don Bosco Prep is around 20 or so in the nation. The should roll through the Non Public Group 4 bracket without much of a test. My sons school (Saint Joes) was #2 in the state and around 50 or so nationally averaging giving up only two points a game and we held tough on Friday night with Bosco for 2 and half quarters...but they just wore us down. Cool Hand Fluke
He aint there yet... He is on the freshman team. Starting fullback and starting MLB in a 4-3 scheme. (defensive captain and makes all the D calls) and honor roll after the first marking period in the advanced academic track in the school. The varsity coach has already taken notice of Max and told him that after this year he is loosing 3 LB and 2 FB's from the varsity roster so there will be plenty of competition. The Freshman coach has already told me that at this point, Max is ahead of where a current senior was when he was a freshman. That kid is now the starting FB and LB for Saint Joes and accepted a full ride to Maryland for football. Living on the right side of the bell curve for over half a century... When I was a kid and they were winning thier state titles all I remember hearing was "Russ Lemming on the carry,,,Russ Lemming on the carry...Russ Lemming on the carry" I played under the same coach for a few of my HS years...AL Saner.."The Peppa" AND BTW we got some more good news on Max yesterday....they are allowing 5 freshmen to continue to practice with the Varsity (since the freshman season is over this Saturday) and those 5 will be allowed to suit up for all playoff games as well as the Thanskgiving day game against our big rival Bergen Catholic....and if things go well the championship game for our group is scheduled to be played at Rutgers this year. Cool Hand Fluke
From the Monmouth U website...... Courtesy: Monmouth Sports Information Release: 12/22/2006 A 33-year verteran of the football coaching profession, Larry Zdilla is in his ninth season on the Monmouth coaching staff. Zdilla is responsible for coaching the Hawks' defensive secondary. In September of 2007, Zdilla, the winningest coach in Solanco High School program history, was inducted to their hall of fame. Last season two of Monmouth's defensive backs earned Second Team All-NEC honors, including senior safety Derrick Bischoff and junior corner Ayo Falae. Bischoff led the Hawks in tackles (57). while Falae finished with two interceptions, 11 pass breakups and finished tied for second in tackles with 49. MU defensive backs accounted for seven of the team's 12 interceptions while the Hawks boasted the second best pass defense in the conference. In 2006 Zdilla guided Monmouth safety Matt Hill to Mid-Major All-American, First Team All-Northeast Conference and Football Gazette Mid-Major Defensive Back of the Year honors. Hill finished his career with the fourth most tackles in school history, leading the Hawks two out of his four years in the category. The championship season also had senior cornerback David Jiles become the all-time leader in interceptions at Monmouth en route to Gazette Second Team All-American and Second Team All-NEC honors. Zdilla began his head coaching career at Solanco High School in Lancaster County, Pa., where he took a program that only experienced one winning campaign in its previous 30 years to 11 straight winning seasons and the only two championships and state playoff appearances in school history. He was recently named Solanco's Coach of the Last Half Century. In 1993, he became the head coach at Marlboro (N.J.) High School and promptly led the Mustangs to its first winning season in 20 years. In 1994, Marlboro won the Central Jersey, Group IV State Championship. He earned his respective conference's coach of the year honors on four occasions in 1983, 1990, 1991 and 1994. In 19 years as a prep head coach, Zdilla compiled an overall record of 120-60-1. Hailing from Monessen, Pa., Zdilla was a three-year letterwinner at California University of Pennsylvania and earned All-Pennsylvania honors on one occasion. Zdilla has two sons, Dan and Michael. My Brother went to Bosco. When I was young Bergen Catholic was the powerhouse and St Joe's as well; but the last 10 years at Bosco has been nothing short of unbelievable. They are like Blair Academy is in wrestling. I like that they travel and play nationally ranked teams early in the season.
Seidner
Not in NJ but the local team here in Walton NY won the State Championship last year and will probably win again this year. I believe they are class D. This year they have outscored opponents this year 464 to 34 and have won 23 straight games .
Cool Hand Fluke
Games all over the state between tonight (7:00pm) and tomorrow (1:00 pm).... Get our there and support your local teams...more than likely they have been busting their collective humps since the middle of August and their seasons could come to an end in just 48 minutes....
