Obama administration's anti-gun agenda

As many of you know, despite his anti-gun history, President-elect Obama avoided gun control rhetoric during his campaign. However, immediately following the election, the following was posted, not on Obama's website, but on the sister site Change.gov.

  • Address Gun Violence in Cities: As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.
Once Tom Gresham (host of radio show Gun Talk) exposed this fact, Change.gov took the site down. But you can view the information at the link below.

I have no problem with guns that are apt to be used in criminal activity being traceable.

No LAW ABIDING citizen should have a problem withthat.

When the number of people murdered with guns every year approaches the number of deer shot during hunting season, something should be done to address the issue.

Dogboy, you're a person who doesn't have a full grasp of what you're trying to legislate, and if you can't figure out why I say this, you know less about the issue than I think you do.

View PostGood! Send me your car that travels at speeds over the legal limit.biggrin.gif

You mean the one with license plate on it, right?

The individual vehicle that has been registered and is therefore traceable, right?

The one that carries insurance if it happens to cause harm, right?

Don't try to compare apples and oranges unless you are prepared for someone to pass a law that changes one to the other.

because until this moment i didn't realize that that could be a potential avenue for gun legislation

don't get me wrong, i agree with the right for law abiding people to own guns

but just as a car can be required to be registered and insured, so too, perhaps should guns be registered and insured.

there is a right to bear arms, but driving is a privelege

except the right to bear arms was given before cars were invented, and the right to own a horse would have been a given

PS- it was also a right to own slaves then too, just for the record

Dog......my issue is with the Assault Rifle Ban.

Note....sarcasm attached to first line. Easy boy........down!

Now if you want to discuss the merits of an Assault Rifle Ban then I am all ears.

Not with the idea that the guns that the citizenry is supposed to have to prevent tyranny are going to be categorized so the "Civilian National Security Squads" know which houses to go to first when they decide to implement tyranny?

View PostI usually disagree with Dogboy, but he has a definite grievance on this one. I think he deserves an apology.

I calls em as I sees em, and his argument makes 0 sense, and has been debunked hundreds of times here.

"I don't like guns cause criminals use em, so let's ban the legal guns and harass law-abiding citizens!"

There's no such thing as a childproof gun. Remember the "smartgun" initiative from several years back? Yeah, it's not workable.

And the assault weapon ban keeps people from having guns that are black. Nothing more, nothing less, and kneecaps the gun companies in this country (that happen to provide a lot of jobs) from engaging in R&D that will produce more guns and ensure a more secure nation overall.

I apologize when I'm wrong.
