WoodyCT
We all know the hooks on most of these stink, but has anybody come up with a really good way to rig these effective baits so large don't wreck the hooks? I just whipped this up and think it might work. Can also be run with only 1 point of the VMC pointing up. VMC 4/0 with a 5.5H split ring Thanks for your input guys, Jon Bait is for old men and little boys... real men plug.
Mr. Bigdeal
What's the eye loop your attaching the split ring to...............? "The hungry Wolf hunts the best.... Why isn't John Moses Browning on Mt. Rushmore?
golden
funny, i think the wild eye hooks are super tough - at least the large bass proved it. oh, and the 100 lb tuna i saw landed on a 6" storm didn't do any damage either. thundermac12
What's the eye loop your attaching the split ring to...............? I think nothing. When he hooks into a fish the eye of the treble will run up and down the line. Unique idea.
RedJeep
That looks like a stainless eye from the old hook? I have had a storm shad (brown hook) that rusted out under the hook eye and when I cast it I retrieved only the hook eye. I like my paddle tails on my lead heads, the weight wind resistance ratio is better than that of the swim shads. Since I make my own lead heads I have fixed the mold for the 2oz so it takes the 7/0 hook same as the 3oz mold. As long as you can trust the hook eye you are good to go. I am thinking you could un-curl the hook that goes in the rubber bait? RI: best part of CT
Yeah - that's the eye from the original hook. Not likely it'll come out as it's cast inside a big, odd shaped keel weight inside the bait itself. You could just clip off the business end of the hook flush with the rubber. That split ring will prevent the treble from riding up the leader as it's smaller in diameter than the eye of the treble from what I can see. Cool idea Woody! Capio pisces, ergo sum. WoodyCT
thats seems like a good idea,I like it and might try it out..If yah dont mind Patented the idea this afternoon! The shad's factory eye is cast in a great big hunk of lead, and the VMC's eye is too small to slide up and over the split ring. JW PS Also toyed with the idea of using a dancing stinger type hook. JesseS
I have used a soild ring and an assist hook, just cut off the hook it comes with and use a split ring to attach the shad to the solid ring. They swim great .

BrianBM
I don't have a problem with the standard hooks either. That said, this is ingenious. If you had to jackpole a fish onto a bridge, jetty or rockpile, this could be invaluable.
