albacized
I've used St Croix Tidemasters, a Salmon/Steelhead Wild River and an Avid which is also part of their Salmon/Steelhead series - they range from 2 to 10 years old and have been using braid exclusively for about 5 years...I've never ran into grooving problems (or any other braid related issues)... Ditch Jigger
The guides will hold up to braid. The early Ben Doerr used Pacific Bay guides instead of Fujis. The problem with Pacs isn't that they groove--they're made from the same hardened oxide as Fuji Hardaloy guides. The problem is that the rings have a bad habit of popping out of the frames. Local66
I had a set of double foot hardloys that only lasted for about 10 days of jetty snook fishing. I built the rod as a "beater", not expecting to like the blank as much as I did. I was using heavy braid, with about 10 lbs of drag. I don't know anyone else who has had a similar experience with cheaper guides, but I now use SIC's exclusively now on my personal gear. I know lots of people who have had the same alconite/hardloy guides on their rods for years, and have never had problems.
