Novice Basser
I am having some trouble with my Penn SS 5500 the bail on it refuses to go down when the reel is cranked the bail just spins without locking down and going into gear for the line to be retrived. I tried oiling it up but there is not any improvement? Any ideas on whats wrong. Are these bigger Penn reels meant to be manually put into gear and the bail is suppose to be manually pushed down after the cast? Shut up and FISH! canyondiver
Sounds like you have a broken bail spring. The bail should close as soon as it knocks into the trip post, and if you try to flip it shut, it should snap closed. Proud to be a NERB and I have the shirts to prove it!! Novice Basser
Is that a part which i could order from Penn and replace myself? Shut up and FISH!
canyondiver
Is that a part which i could order from Penn and replace myself? Yes! While you are at it, get an extra bail spring as they are dirt cheap and a spare is way less than the shipping. Proud to be a NERB and I have the shirts to prove it!!
