TV Converter boxes

I have two analog TV's and recently received two $40 coupons from the government.

I began to price the analog to digital converter boxes and found Wal Mart sells the Magnavox for $49.99. Radio Shack and other retalers in my area sell other manufacters boxes for $59.99.

I purchased the Magnavox at Wal Mart for the net price of $10.00 ( $49.99 less $40.00 coupon). The box works fine and I have no problem with it.

I'm debating if I should purchase another Magnavox box with my second coupon or spend $20.00 ($59.99 less $40.00 coupon) on a manufacturers box.

Question.......is there a difference in quality, or any other thing for that matter, between a box cost $49.99 and one costing $59.99....or doesn't it matter?

Thanks.

If you have cable TV, no converter is necessary......you only need them if you are getting your reception "over the airwaves" thru an antennea......

Until 2011 when Cable Companys all must go digital and we will pay for a box if we want cable.

Buy both at the same store ,same brand. I was shocked at the clarity of picture that my Walmart boxes produce from over the air signal. Better than my basic cable pic.

I bought the DTV Pal by Echostar for my RV. Works great. I paid $10 after coupon at Sears. They have since dropped to free after coupon I believe. One good thing about the DTV Pal that few of the other boxes have is timers. If you do a lot of recording it's handy to have. It also has analog bypass, so you can switch to analog at the touch of a button. Might be useful between now and Feb. if some of your local channels haven't gone full power with digital yet.

I'll have mine on the rocks.

I'm helping a disabled elderly person get one and ran into problems. He was to get one in August and it never arrived. When I went online to check the status of the confirmation # I received, it stated the coupon expired. I applied for another one for him and was told it would be mailed around 11/21. The DTV site says you are entitled to two coupons and they do not replace lost or stolen ones. I hope they mail them in plain envelopes to minimize thefts. Seems this operation could have been run better.
