hey everyone,

im new to this site (and striper fishing) and im trying to figure out how to catch stripers in the backwaters of the shrewsbury river. Caught my first two stripers last week, both 30+ inches but nothing since. Any advice on specific lures or baits that work this time of year?

View Postthanks for the advice. Next question: How do i snag a bunker and how do i rig it

well first you have to make sure they are around..... if you see small fish jumping out of the water and something chasing them, those are bunker.... You need a treble hook Extra%2520Wide%2520Gap%2520Treble%2520Ho

Toss it out, let it sink to whatever depth the bunker are holding, give the rod a nice strong yank sideways, let it drop, repeat..... takes some time to get used to... also, be very careful when the line is too close... the treble can come flying out of the water and into you or a passerby if its too close... once you think its close just stop yanking and reel in normally.... if the bunker are not around, you can always go to the bait shop and buy them there wink.gif.. make sure they are fresh

first off welcome to the sight HappyWave.gif lots of good info here. For snagging bunker use a weighted treble. If you are fishing from the shore, (As boat fish don't countwink.gif - on this board) I don't recommend snagging and then rehooking. Just snag and drop - snag the bunker and let it sit there. It should work its way to the end of the school or the bottom where bigger fish should be waiting. Not sure what your experience is but I am presumming since you have caught a few already you know the difference between happy (bad) bunker and nervous (good) bunker. but JIC - Happy bunker will swim along in one direction with no dramatic change in speed or course. nervous bunker pods will vary speed and course dramatically. A very good sign will be when a bunch leap out of the water. there are numerous videos on youtube of this and if you do a search on here or on youtube you will see them.

Also do a search on pencil poppers as they are good to use when bunker are around. Feel free to ask away any questions but you might find your answers using the search button. Best of luck!

yes, livelining would be the best way Ted... however, if there are people next to you fishing, it would be inconsiderate to do this because you will get the lines tangled..... if you are by yourself, go for it... if there are people around, pull the bunker out, cut it into chunks, put a chunk on your hook, cast out and get ready

HEY AA, I was going to write in my post that you have knowledge (experience) in this sort of thing and for tedlascala to review your posts in the weekly report. But I don't like mentioning other members unless they volunteer their info first. May your line be tight and rod bent...beers.gif
