which penn reels

I know about the 706 / 704 reels and how great they are.. but what other Penn reels are good for plugging off longisland? ie.. 710, 716, 722.. i am not really familiar w/ which are ment for surfcasting.

Anything below the 712 are more or less FW reels however you could use them for snappers or smaller fish in the bay.They shouldnt be used in the surf.I Used a 712 many years fishing or fluke,flounder,small blues and weaks.You also have the three digit and four diget series,550SS or its newer model the 5500.

Those are about your best bet for striper fishing. Like Sc said anything smaller is a basically FW reels. I have a few and they are small.

Yes but cant stuff the 706,704 and 710 with dollar bills like you can a stripper.

Ahem, yeah. The 712 would also work on a small one-handed outfit. It's just as tough as the others. The strippers don't care which one you use.

Lets not forget the rare limited edition 757, a work horse just like the z series. I also have 704z & greenie, and a 560 slammer. The slammer is a sweet reel.
