Maybe it was a mistake on Matthews' part by letting his guard down. Whether a mistake or deliberate, he sure let the cat out of the bag this morning. He let us know that as a journalist objectivity is not his strong suit. But actually he told us what we already knew. You'd think he'd be smart enough to keep up a pretense. This is the guy who gets a thrill down his leg whenever Obama speaks. Typical main stream media Obama lemming.

View PostHe describes himself as one.

Journalist can have a couple of meanings.

He's a political commentator that's a cheerleader for the Democratic Party. Has been since day 1. Why anyone's surprised at this is beyond me. Before he went into broadcasting, he was a staffer for Moynihan in NY.

William F. Buckley could call himself a journalist--so could Howie Carr, Les Payne, Jimmy Breslin, Mike Barnickle and anyone else who writes an op ed piece. There's a difference between a commentator--what these partisan guys were/are--and a reporter.

I don't think anyone's surprised that he's partisan. I even said up above that he told us what we already knew. The surprise comes from him being so candid about it. He removed any pretense there might've been.

By the way, I agree that by my preferred definition, he doesn't come close to being referred to as a journalist.
