First off I will say, I am throwing a 12' Daiwa Saltiga Surf with a Shimano Sustain FE 8000 with 15 lb iPP, breakaway cast cannon. The rig I am throwing is a 3 oz torpedo sinker with about 12 inches of 30 leader to a 1/8oz jighead with a small plastic(3 in zoom tiny fluke). I do ok but it seems like som guys can just throw further. Fishing is almost shoulder to shoulder and is a little scary at times. But where I am fishing distance is everything! it determines if you catch fish or not. I was throwing a Daiwa Power surf which I seemed to get more distance but it was just to slow. I am looking for tips for a long cast. I have fished this area for sometime and do well but there are times I just can reach the fish. Not sure what else I can really do but if there is something you guys would know

i know where you fish. I bet its at the conowingo dam. My set up is the daiwa 13' 3' ballistic saltiga with daiwa advantage4000 Reel and 15 power pro. I chuck a 2 oz trolling sinker with a light weight fly attached. And i can reach the white waters of the dam. Now if i change my fly to a 2" grub or something heavier i can proabably hit the edge or the water. As heavier the lure gets the shorter my distance becomes. But i also notice that the rod makes a difference too. With my st croix 10' 1/4 oz rod i can chuck a 2oz with a fly about to the edge of the water. So my advice is change to a lighter lure weight. O yea and when you go out to cast have your rod up raised over your head like your going to cast and the distance of the string from the rod should reach all the way down to the water so you can excel maximum power. And yea pendulem can reach the farest distance but it is too dangerous with all the people and children around.

I was fishing 3 times last week and the fishing is horrible now. No fish around im not sure where all the stripers have gone too.

Just when it get tight i was looking for some tips for casting in crowds. Yeah I talked to you for a quick second, I think i lent you my pliers. I fished I think on Wednesday with no luck. It was about half a gate open and then at 6 pm they opened 4 big and 4 or 6 small. Nothing except a real short and a cat. Next time say whats up. I usually have green waders and a wading belt with a set of blue pliers

Yea its so much fun ill have to take a picture of the action during the summer time when its the most pack. Its so crazy how many fisherman line up in a stright line in the water, elbow to elbow, everybody casting over everybodys line. But if your willing to do this you have to be an experience caster. Accurately cast and be able to cast as far as the line your casting over. I seen people break thier rods by hitting other people's rods. I seen people that cant cast, cast over people's lines and getting huge tangles, i seen peoples fishing rods and tackle getting sucked into the water when the gates opened up. Its so crazy there always something new and fun to witness when fishing here. better have a lot of lures and sinkers cause its theres a lot of rocks.

Grave digger you have to use 20 test power pro or less and any other braid to get the distance. Purchase a lot of 2 oz and 3 oz trolling sinkers. Its hard to find them in stores but just come down to the dam and ask people if they are selling any sinkers cause most of the people down there make their own sinkers and are happy to sell you some. for my lure i use some decievers cause it helps me cast a lot farther then using soft baits. If your going to use soft baits go with anything under 4", i use 2" grubs, 2.5inch shads and most of my decievers are less then 3".For your rod id go with a 10footer. It really doesnt matter what reel you use. And the rest is up to you, just pratice pratice.

The fishing for stripers is over right now all youll snag is gizzard shad. There all over the beach rotting and everywhere you cast. Id wait till next season where you will be able to catch as much as you want and not waste and sinkers and lures.

Oh yea the american shad is coming soon and is great fighting fish on light tackle. you cant keep them

kesiki- have you been up there at all latley? I was thinking of maybe tryin it out tomorrow to see if I can find anything still up there. Last time i was up there the gizzards were everywhere but there have to be some stripers still in the area. I think the big problem is that they haven't been running the right water laley. Anyway I'm gonna try and see if I can find a taker tomorrow.
