hatman
I wasnt that stupid. Â I was once after being dead tired. Drove quite a way with the gate down, rods, waders and some other stuff in the back. Was amazed I didn't lose a thing. It's usually tiredness for fisherman that lead to these things rather than stupidity. on the good side of the grass.....

JayC
Man, I feel bad for you. Â I always carry my rod to and from the beach that way. I stick the butt end against the cab of my truck and lean the tip up on the tailgate. I've been doing it that way for a good 8 years now. I have never lost anything, but I can give you one simple idea. My rod is 10'. It's a 2piece Lami, but I never take it apart. That would solve the falling out problem though, Take it apart if it's 2 piece...Otherwise, I've seen people use duck tape on the top rail of the tailgate to anchor down the end of the rod. It may help, not sure. I just lay my rod in the bed on a slight angle. Sorry to hear of your loss.

If your laying those rods on the tailgate while it's up you might be doing some damage to the rod while driving from the vibration and bumps. I'd think about covering them or mounting them somehow. IMO I LIKE PIZZA!
richs
I try to lean rods on the side view and leave bags and rest bags and stuff on the hood. If I'm in back, it goes in the car. I have a wagon, so it's easy to move stuff in and out. No more skunks. Maybe you didn't hear about it, you been gone a long time.
