I was thinking about getting a Bluetooth player, when I realzed that for a few extra bucks, I could get a Playstation 3. Im looking into them now..

are they worth it?

how does Online gmaing work. Im a big Call of duty United offensive guy online. I wonder how the game play is online.

what do I need to play online. Do I have to buy a router for my PC and connect that way??

how is the movie player? PS2 's movie player sucked, very hard to controll.

thanks,

BC

Yes, you need a router. You can connect wireless or hardwired.(I think)

I have played COD games on Xbox and I don't like it. Maybe it's because I'm spoiled by the computer mouse, but I found the controls to be awkward on consoles.

As far as the blu-ray player, it looks pretty cool. I hope you have an HDTV. I don't know how great the picture would look on a regular TV.

The PS2's movie player isn't that bad if you buy the remote. Using the paddle sucked. The remote was pretty good.

Im amazed.. I was at Game Stop and Best Buy at lunch. all I wanted to know was how do I get hooked up on line with PS3.. all those dorks wouldnt explain to me completely how to do it.

Here is what I have and what I want to do.

I have a Cablevision Optimum Online with a cable modem. People have told me that I need a router. What does that enable me to do? I want my desktop PC to still be hardwired, but PS3 can be wireless, I Also in the future will be getting my kids a laptop that I would need to have internet access for. Can one router fill all these needs??? how does a router install? Im assuming in plugs into the back of my cable modem and wf-fi replaces wires etc..

so, if I have the router installed, how do I access online play from ps3? do I need to purchase anything additional for PS3 to allow me to play online?

It's very easy.

All you need to do is go buy a router. The cable still comes in and connects to the cable modem. Then, instead of going from the cable modem to the back of your computer, it goes to the router. There, the signal gets split.

Most every router has hardwire ports on the back. You take an ethernet cable and you plug it from the router port to the back of your computer.

Plug the router into the electrical socket and it's on. Think of a router as a high tech splitter.

It will work with the PS3 and it will work with laptops.

Then you just have to set up the security which isn't difficult but not worth going into once you have all the stuff you need.

can't help you with the PS3 online gaming but you are right about the router. The modem plugs into the router then you would plug your components (pc, ps3) into the router. If you want to hook up wireless, you have to buy a wireless router. You can also connect your desktop to the wireless router using an rj45 cable.

You know it must be a penguin bound down if you hear that terrible screaming and there ain't no other birds around.

BC the PS3 is the way to go. I will never buy a regular DVD again. Blue-ray kicks ass!

BC- I am what you call a computer guy... not a nerd because I am not into breakin stuff apart hot wireing and refixing but i could set up a time...maybe a week from this sunday and I can set it up for you.... I run a small one man business and i do that kinda thing but on SOL we are family and i wouldnt charge you anything. i set up wireless for about 13 customers so far. If you get a router( id tell which one about 40 bucks) and the PS3... i could do it , thought it might take me 15 in to figure the ps 3 out because i dont have onemyself ...

Let me know and I can make myself available on november 16th

i know my parents, aand their friends are nto good with electronics and it was easier for them to have me do it. Ive gone to CT to do work before so this wouldnt be bad

Plug the ethernet cable into the back of the box - done.

Buy the TV style remote accessory because it's a pain in the butt to use a game controller for that.

Be aware that PS3 remotes/controllers use RF, not infrared - so you can't use a universal remote without buying an adapter that plugs into one of the USB ports and then teaching the remote the commands.

It's a great box.

I've had a Linksys wireless router for several years now, and a PS3 for a little over one year.

My Linksys is ethernet connected to my tower system upstairs and broadcasts wireless signals to my downstairs desktop tower (via a Linksys antenna and software). My wife, daughter and myself also all have laptops that pick up the signal for wireless use. Laptops have their own internal sensor for wireless.

The PS3 is fantastic for online COD4 play, as it is on the wireless signal. For Blu-ray movies you will need to buy a Sony PS3 remote for a nominal fee. If you have a bluetooth you can configure it to be linked to the Playstation for gameplay chat with your clan.

There is so much the PS3 can do, and you are right into the heart of gaming season, with some big releases out and about to come out now. Enjoy!

Agree with the above posts...PS3 is a no brainer. The blue ray is fantastic, the up-convert quality on regular DVD's will even blow you away if you have an HDTV. My biggest reccomendation would be to get a HIGH quality HDMI cable for connecting the PS3 to your TV. Not sure you need to go with the $120 monster super cables but dont skimp out on the cable.
