sefmonster
Want to put 300 yds of 14lb Fireline on my VS 150 and was wondering how much backing and what test would be best to get the most casting distance from my reel?
RI: best part of CT
Unless you have a spare spool...get two big conventional reels or big fly reels. Wind all the fireline onto your vs150 tie a knot to your mono and wind on the mono to fill. Wind that off onto one of the other reels(which will put the mono near the arbor of the second reel), then wind that off onto the other reel (which will put the braid next to the arbor of the second reel), then, tie an arbor knot in the mono onto your VS150 and wind it all back, under tension, onto your VS150. ...that's the way I do it anyway Capio pisces, ergo sum. surfcollector
I use 14 on a 100 and 20 on the 150....i can get a whole spool of 20 with a couple wraps of 50 lb mono.....i'm guessing you could go with a few wraps of a lighter lb test mono and then a whole spool of 14. you dont want to fill it to the lip, give yourself more room than with a reel that cross wraps well. surfcollector
Hmmm...thats a really good idea. Looking at all the spools of line with extra here and there, that is worth the time.
