j0k3r
I fish those jetties a lot, at high tide its a real possibility of slipping on the rocks and getting swept away. RIP fisherman

tommyboyNJ
Horrible news. Thoughts and prayers to his family. Remember to be careful out there guys. If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.
Slingin Eels
Another loss of a avid fisherman who deeply enjoys what he does. I can't stress enough on the dangers of rock fishing. This application is unforgiving even on a calm day where conditions are superb. The experiences I have had were good and bad. I just got plain lucky on some occasions. The Avon jetty is probably the most dangerous rock pile around the SFZ. The angle, surface discrepancies and the flow of water from the open ocean and the inlet all make this a recipe for dangerous conditions if you are not aware of your abilities. Not saying there is a jetty that is safe but I have seen throughout my years growing up on this jetty a good amount of injuries and lives taken. I really can't stress how important it is to wear a PFD when hopping along these bass magnets. I personally think, most of the members are not sure or did research on PFD's. They make a fishing vest for applications suited for this type of fishing. I will admit, I wear mine when the conditions call for it, but should wear it more frequently. Experienced men and women understand the layout and the possiblities of fishing these rock piles, but safety here is pinnacle. It is unfortunate we lost another fisherman due to possibly an accident or negligence, just be safe out there and think twice before looking for that bass. AmboyAngler
Prayer sent for another fisherman lost to the sea. I like to think that there is a nice place in heaven with water and 80 LB stripers waiting for all of us fishermen who depart "Only a fool knows everything. A wise man knows how little he knows." waderman1
Hey guys - I dont know if this is a hijack... but What do you do if a wave knock you off of a jetty and you have your waders on? I've replayed this in my head a couple of times and I always carry a knife on my belt but is that enough? Do you cut your straps off and attempt to remove your waders? (I have bootfoot so I cant even imagine trying to get them off in a panic) or..... i dont know..... any suggestions - advice? What is or should be the steps you take to save your life? Thanks tEAM dumBASS `·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸><((((º> `·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸><((((º> `·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸><((((º>

Thanks I know echopeus from this site has an inflatable floating device that goes strapped to his waist just in case this ever happens.... everyone should have one of these..... but honestly you shouldn't be wearing waders on a jetty anyway "Only a fool knows everything.
