The Coastland Times reported that stripers were being caught in the area. As a native New Englander this is my speciality. If anyone is interested in meeting up shoot me a PM. I prefer to surf cast but have kayak and will travel.beers.gif

Can't you read? cwm27.gif

I can certainly read, so one would think that if you read my question after that post was already there, that the question might be directed towards the originator of the thread that read the information in the coastland times. Maybe he read something different than what John posted......

View PostIve heard of some boat fish......nothing from the sand yet. Everyone is still in drum mode.

Yes, and I would be in drum mode as well if I could afford appropriate gear

View Postwhere were they reported?? Beach, boat??

They were reported up north in the harbor but still in the obx area and I am assuming they were boat fish. I have a few days of temporary work at my gf's company and after that I am planning on finding out for myself exactly where early next week. Chances are I will be in the yak

Harry,

If you are looking for a heaver to get started for cheap, check out some of the obx sites and ask for used ones for sale. Go talk to Nick at tw's in nags head. He might have an old one he is willing to sell. Bass pro shop sells the oceanmaster line of heavers for about $100.00. Pair it up w/ a diawa slosh 20 and you can get started for under $200.00 You do not need the top of the line equipment. Practice casting and you will be ready for the spring drum season. This fall drum season has been the worst since I have lived here. It is constantly blowing 30+ which pushes the bait+fish offshore.

I have some gear but I need my "own" set up. I can't help it but if I don't have nice stuff I just get annoyed. It's at the point right now that I can't afford, lead terminal tackle, and bait. Hell i can't even really afford to leave the house. If i could get one of my trucks sold or find a job I would have a custom rod wrapped. At the moment I just take my kayak out and soon I will chase bass from the surf with my gear from when I lived up north.

I have spoken with Nick at TW's, he's a nice dude.

I dont know what gear you have from up north. But if you have lighter plugging rods I would be out looking for trout and pups. Pups will eat tins, teasers jigs etc in other words they will eat what you might have for stripers. As for trout......I catch them on teasers pretty consistently. People can get nutty with trout, 27 colors of grubs jigs etc........

I hope things get better for ya.

I know and I was disappointed, I was doing a lot of job hunting. Driving around dropping off resumes, go to interviews, staffing agencies, etc. It was miserable. Next time for sure.

I have messed around with some of my bass stuff and its been fun but I really got addicted to fishing longcaster's heaver.

And lately I just haven't been able to afford to leave the house...however I got a call today that I have a start date for my new job as a cable guy. Sweeet

Vacation is over.
