eddieg710
When cleaning your drag washers, do you put a drop of oil (not grease) on them? Haven't done this in a while. THANKS! starsandstriper
i rub grease into them, then wipe it off the surface. this is simply for protection from water. it dont think it helps or hinders the consistancy of the drag. sean curry
With Conventional reels I put a dab of grease inside the main gear where the drag washers fit. Â I then use a few q-tips to remove most of the grease, leaving a fairly thin film. This help ****** corrosion inside the main gear. Mangrove Jack
When cleaning your drag washers, do you put a drop of oil (not grease) on them? Haven't done this in a while. THANKS! Â You mention oil (not grease). I have never heard of anyone putting oil on the drag washers in the last 20 years. The older reels had leather washers and used to be oiled by some with a touch of Neatsfoot oil. But not the newer fibre washers. A light dusting with pure dry Graphite Powder works well to keep the drag running smoothly too.
PennRemasterd
I never put any oil or grease on my washers. That just ruins them faster, you really dont want to get anything on them. Just dry them off after your use at the suds. One Fish from the Surf, Equals 10 Fish on a Boat!
savfish
I put a thin coating of cal's drag grease on all the fiber washers in my penn mag 525's. It makes a huge difference in the performance, especially when the reel gets wet. The spinners I use are all high end diawa and shimano so I don't mess with them. Is it less effective on a Daiwa Saltiga or Penn 750SS spinner ...just wondering as I've never seen "drag grease" for sale anywhere. I just upgraded a Daiwa SS2 spinner to carbontex drag washers and Smooothdrag mentions the option of using Cal's drag grease on the pkg. but they go on to state they are fine to use dry. Â Grease em all. It does not shorten the life of the washers, and if anything, it lengthens the service life. I have been using Cal's grease since last season and I love it. savfish
I haven't bothered using it on my saltigas and stella because there has been no need for it. The drags work great right out of the box imo. The 525's (4 of them) are a different story - huge difference w/ the drag grease.
TomDP
Grease on fiber drag washers is a personal preferance thing. Some guys swear by it and others against it. Either way is acceptable by the drag manufacturer.
