troubleman
Good Morning to all, I just picked up a Japanese built Shakespeare 2107 reel. No missing parts, a few spots on the paint but still smooth to operate. Other than cleaning it up and replacing drag washers (now old and very crusty leather) it is in very good shape. I plan on an updated material for the drags. The gears and such are cast with a brass pinion. The shaft appears to be a fairly good grade of steel (stainless?). Mono will be the choice, in the 20# range. Is it worth stripping and painting the spool? Has a minor bit of blemish just on the inside of the front face. Would have to be a powder coating for toughness if done again. My question is, does (has) any one use this reel? Looks fairly sturdy and could be a lot of fun. A Google search has produced zero hits for this reel. Thanks C. F.

I have also seen similar ones in wally-mart. I almost bought one once but have enough right now. I bet it can deal with standard duty plugging and or rubber. I would fill it and go slinging with it,that will tell you a lot about it. bluefish1928thing
after reading an european based book on fishing, i noticed shakespeare makes a lot of decent- looking gear in Europe not avaiblible in the US (reels, long rods, telescopic rods, even lrues i think etc). Is Shakespeare based in Europe? in the us the only good thing they sell is ugly sticks while the rest are cheap, value products.
the_tin_squid
I was in the Shetland Islands this past August... and I went into a tackle shop to look at gear, and my goodness does Shakespeare have some awesome gear in other countries. There were at least 12 rods that I wanted to take home with me... Probably 20 reels... We definitely get the shaft over here
