scooter pie
So my friends and I fish for about 2 hours waiting for 'our spot' to open up on the tip of our favorite jetty.... We get in there after the 3 spanish speaking guys with 10 bait rods set up finish and leave with 'Richard' to show for it. (I dunno why they needed camp out on the Tip of the jetty, but i guess they have access rights too. But it pissed me off how they left a lot of trash on the jetty) So my buddies and I are plugging away for about half an hour and BAM... we start smacking into a wave of snapper blues and a couple shorts. So as my buddy is dehooking his catch a dude squeezes into this spot.... there were literally a guy every 5 feet so it was clear what he was doing.... i have no problem others fishing a spot when my buddy is not using it BUT i damn well expect them to leave when he gets back... and of course this didn't happen. so i have 2 questions.... 1. Is it unreasonable to expect to get your spot back after you dehook a fish? especially if all your gear is right there??? 2. Not meaning to be racist, but why is it that it is always a Mexican/Spanish speaker that is mugging me?!?! Am I the only unlucky SOB that this is happening too??? So after he got a baby blue and a few times crossing his lines i think he got the hint... and after all that he just left the fish on the jetty.... no C&R or dinner table action.... just left it for the birds?!?!?! JoeLongo
Personally I do not think it is unreasonable to expect to come back to your spot after dehooking a fish, especially if your gear is there. I have witnessed this in three different forums. I fish on party boats several times a year, and maybe once or twice has someone jumped to my spot when unhooking a fish. However, each time they see me coming back, they politely move. Freshwater fishing is a whole other story. There have been times where I was catching alot and people have asked what I have been using, and a couple times when people have literally stood right in front of my setup and casted, but a few choice words got them out of there. As for the jetty thing, I dont spend much time there but on the sand there has been a couple occasions where someone will go to where ever it is i was fishing and cast. Same thing, couple choice words usually does the trick. Keep in mind I have seen these things escalate into fist fights, you just need to know when to either back down or apply more pressure As for the non-english speaking thing, I think it is pretty much split evenly. I have seen this happen with all ethnicities. I think you just happen to notice it more because of stereotypes and what you have heard, so it may stick in your mind more. Similar to air travel. Much safer then cars, but when an accident does happen people are afraid to fly, cars, not so much. There is nothing worse than piss in your oatmeal. Eric_S
Yeah, it's rude and you have every right to be annoyed. Sometimes just when you think you've eluded everyone in the middle of the night and can relax and just catch fish, someone shows up out of nowhere and starts plugging right next to you. You move down the beach and he follows. He moves to the other side of you and a bait fisherman sets up shop where he just was sandwiching you in, just a short cast to your right and he likes bright lights. From all alone to 2 new friend in a matter of minutes last night!
Kings over Queens
I fish on party boats several times a year, and maybe once or twice has someone jumped to my spot when unhooking a fish. We call them, "Mr. Hopsin," because he hops in your spot. It's particularly funny when they are oriental, and you remind them they are in your spot. "OK Mr. Hopsin...I'm back." #otterlivesmatter

I read a lot of posts like this. My question is, why did he leave his spot to unhook his fish. If you are ugly you are ugly. AmboyAngler
2. Not meaning to be racist, but why is it that it is always a Mexican/Spanish speaker that is mugging me?!?! Am I the only unlucky SOB that this is happening too??? Latinos (35 million strong) have increased their presence in the U.S. population by 58% over the last 10 years, and recently surpassed African Americans as the largest ethnic minority (2000 U.S. Census,). While non-white Hispanic population grew by 3%. The odds of it being a Spanish Speaker are very high with these facts in mind. I am sure that it has something to do with them being foreigners and since there are more Hispanics than any other minority, you are going to run into this more often... Don't worry... I too notice that when I get mugged it is always a Mexican/Spanish speaker... And I'm of Cuban Descent... "Only a fool knows everything. A wise man knows how little he knows."
