new to the LI surf fishing seen but since i am always down there (the GF) i should get involved with the local fishing.

I'll be down there this weekend and was hoping to spend some time exploring gilgo and rm and the other local beaches (long beach, etc)

I was wondering if i needed a permit or parking pass to get out there. I'll be on foot so not worried about 4x4 stuff.

any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

Tom

Well... not sure... at night you will need one because the parks are closed to the public at night, except fisherman (with the permit)

During the day, not sure. I know some fields are boarded up for entrance, some allow you to go in. The bath houses are closed though, but if your fishing who cares.

I go to jones a lot and nobodys at the booths and no gates are up blocking you from entering. Id assume its the same at robert where the huts are boarded up for the season, i know at least at captree the huts are boarded up and you can come/go as you please. Just not at night, they check for permits sometimes at night.

you do need a perment if you drive your truck on the beach but if your on foot you are fine but in some places you can park your car at night but if i was you i woudent because if im worng about the parking lots at night they will tow your car away or will give you a ticket.

after Septmper 30 the parking lots are open free of charge sunup to sundown- during the the beach season which starts i think in may you get charged at the beach parking lots. If you are there after dark with out a night fishing permit you will most likely be ticketed towed or both. I m speaking strictly Robert Moses. I think its identical for Jones Beach. Gilgo is its own entity and your suppose to be a resident i think of town of oyster bayand get their permit to park in their parking lot - correct me if im wrong.

Don't overlook a quick peek at Jones Beach WE2 or Field 6.

Perhaps you misread the last posting.

There is No NYS fishing permit currently required to fish saltwater. However, one may be required in the near future.

The only permit you might need is a State Park's issued Night Fishing Permit for your vehicle if you intend to remain parked after sunset in certain parking fields at Jones or RoMo.

Inmy opinion its an easier walk doing robert moses than Jones Beach - just getting to the Jones waterfront is quite along walk. I think just driving the extra 5 miles to rm is justified just to get away from that long walk unlesss you like walking to te beach versus walking up and down the beach. one mans opinion.

atomb, i agree. i'd rather spend the time fishing as opposed to walking.

In a bull market i'll be looking to get my hands on an old CJ as my BB, the current car is def. not made for the beach!smile.gif

until then.... im sticking to the most trusty form of transportation, my own 2 feet!!

in order to park at rm2 and 3 during the day you need a permit? Is that true?

I mean i have the empire pass- but it is olny needed so i dont have to pay the tll at the parking lot -during the day - in th off peak months no one looks to see if i have an empire pass I think field 2 is completly closed to everyone or it was for awhile. I guess im responding to rm field 5 and whatever fields they keep open
