View Postwhere the hell is he? I havent seen or heard BOO from him in what seems like months.. Im waiting for a Bin Laden style fake tape to come out to let us know hes still president.

He's in his spider hole at the request of the entire GOP. It went from "Stay away from our candidates" to "Just send us the money you raise" to "PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GO AWAY!!!"

According to a non-scientific but large poll I read yesterday 61% of professional historians now consider him to be the worst president in US history, over 90% consider him to be at best tied for number 2, and nearly 100% consider his administration to be an unequivocal failure.

You mean that Warren G. Harding isn't the gold standard any more? cwm27.gif

What's a "professional historian", by the way? One would think immediately of Professors of History in the academic world, which isn't known for being a conservative think tank--might one make a case that their views might be a wee bit biased?

Not saying that Dubya ranks up there with Abe, TR, FDR and the rest of the pantheon, but the absolute worst? Worse than Martin van Buren? Millard Fillmore? James Buchanan who gave you the long running hit, The Civil War? US Grant, probably the worst two-termer up to now? Herbert "prosperity is just around the corner" Hoover?

Harding didn't make it into this class of failure. Apparently in historical circles prior to George Bush there was an ongoing debate as to whether Buchanan was the biggest failure for his presidency leading up to the Civil War or Johnson for his administration after the Civil war. For perspective we're talking about two guys so bad they literally nearly killed the nation! Today, the Bush Administration has joined this conversation with the debate being whether or not he deserves the number 1 spot or should be instead tied for number 2.

Yes, professional historians are the people who get paid to study, write, and teach on history. And yes, this does pollute our poll sample in favor of "those who actually know what they're talking about". I can see how, in the light of recent experience, that could make any American suspect a liberal bias but the two groups aren't necessarily the same.

View PostW will have a legacy that will be hard to top. 12 bil a month in Iraq on bs democracy or bankrupting the financial system?

Let's not forget the casual erosion of civil rights as well as the outright war on the environment.
