jonthepain
You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot build character and courage by taking away men's initiative and independence. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could, and should, do for themselves. ~~ Abraham Lincoln Editor, North Carolina Predator Hunters Association

Roadrunner
One of my favorites: 'God must love the poor. He made so many of them.' fishnmagician
Misquote, not Lincoln - William Boetcker you must be mistaken, Ronald Reagan said Lincoln said this..... and seriously, it holds more weight if Lincoln said it, and not a conservative preacher. Logically speaking, it makes sense to tax the people that have the money. What to do with that money is the real issue.
Ditch Jigger
Sounds like Obama has a lot more in common with Lincoln than today's "Republican" does. It's not exactly late-breaking news that the Republican party of old was as liberal for its time as the Democratic Party is today. Even into the 1970s you had guys like Ed Brooke, Jake Javits, Eliot Richardson, John Chaffee, Mark Hatfield, and of course the guy whose last name defined the Eastern Liberal wng of the party, Nelson Rockefeller. But what may surprise you is ol' Abe's personal views of blacks---not very flattering for the image of Great Emancipator "…if catching fish is your only objective, you are either new to the game or too narrowly focused on measurable results.” - D. Agreed. Lincoln would be considered a racist today. He was ahead of his time on racial matters in his day. No argument.
