Arno
A report has cleared U.S. vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin of ethics violations in the firing of Alaska's public safety commissioner. The report, released Monday by the Alaska Personnel Board, said there is "no probable cause" to believe Palin, who is governor of Alaska, or any other state official, violated the state's Executive Ethics Act. The report contrasts a separate legislative investigation released Oct. 10 that concluded that Palin, a Republican, abused her office by allowing her husband and staffers to pressure public safety commissioner Walter Monegan to fire a state trooper who went through a nasty divorce from Palin's sister. Palin fired Monegan, but denies his dismissal was related to the trooper. Although the legislative report issued a stinging rebuke of Palin's conduct, it carried no penalty. The Alaska Personnel Board has the authority to decide if Palin violated the law. "Gov. Palin is pleased that the independent investigator for the Personnel Board has concluded that she acted properly in the reassignment of public safety commissioner Walt Monegan," Palin's attorney, Thomas Van Flein, said in a statement. Alaska Personnel Board investigations are normally secret, but the three-member board decided to release this report, citing public interest in the matter given Palin's status as a candidate for national office. Election Day is Tuesday. Palin was not subpoenaed in the investigation, but she did testify before independent investigator Timothy Petumenos for two hours on Oct. 24. It marked the first time she spoke at length, or under oath, about the controversy, known as Troopergate. Palin pushed for the Alaska Personnel Board investigation after accusing the legislative inquiry of becoming partisan. Telephone messages left with state Senator Hollis French, who led the legislative investigation, and Senator Kim Elton, chairman of the Legislative Council, were not immediately returned. http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2008/1...oopergate.html ______________________

Roadrunner
Too little, too late. The smear did the damage it was intended to do. Done is done. Triet
The Legislative investigation was the unbiased one that Palin agreed to. When it started going badly, Palin had her own crew do the Personnel Board investigation. Shockingly, that was the one that found her not guilty. Should be interesting to see who trumps who. Nice timing by the way. Skitter
Too little, too late. The smear did the damage it was intended to do. Done is done. It was a lot more than that incident that brought her down after her brief lofty flight. She still draws a crowd though. No accounting for peoples taste I guess. John Purser
The bipartisan committee that began it's investigation BEFORE she was a candidate said guilty. The committee she appointed that was created AFTER she became a candidate said innocent. I'm shocked. Shocked I.... Oh I can't even pretend for the sake of humor anymore. New_Caster
lets trash Sarah Palin for trying to have a guy fired who tasered a 10 year old boy. How dare she do that.
Triet
The kid asked to be tasered. Literally. Any of us would have done it. And then gotten our asses kicked by our wives the next day. Plus she waited years before she gave a crap about it. During which time she gave him professional recommendations. So it really was not about firing him for the tasering, it was about firing him for getting a divorce. Homerisadope
In her defense(still think she's as dumb as a box of rocks), I asked some cops to taser me because I wanted to see what it felt like and they refused. I used to run deliveries for a pharmacy. They gave me a small canister of military teargas to defend myself. I TWICE gave myself the tear gas experience - once, spraying it out the window of a moving car to see how far it would shoot (nearly drove off the road on the blow back), and another time, spraying it at a friend of mine when a wind came up and blew it back in my face. Talk about a punch in the face. You'd love it. Ordinary ****ing people - I hate 'em.

If it was such a clear case don't you think she could have managed to do it WITHOUT an ethics violation?
