Amendment to Article 5, section 6 of the Constitution, in relation to additional civil service credit for members of the armed forces of the United States. The proposed amendment would eliminate the requirement that veterans who were disabled in the actual performance of duty in any war be receiving disability payments from the United States Veterans Administration in order to qualify for additional points on a civil service examination for appointment or promotion. Under the proposed amendment, the disability must only be certified to exist by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. The proposed amendment would also update the reference to the "United States Veterans Administration" to instead refer to the "United States Department of Veterans Affairs" to reflect current federal government structure. Shall the proposed amendment be approved? (Vote yes or no)
Amendment means that, if passed, disabled veterans who do not receive disability payments will also get additional points on their civil service exam.

This is for the people of New York.

View PostSo if your arm or leg got blown off in Iraqi, and you want to come home and become a mailman you get extra credit on you CS exam...?

Yes, as it should be. Is there an issue in your mind that a disabled veteran SHOULD NOT get a small break trying to secure a federal job? cwm13.gif

When I was taking civil service exams, we whiteys had a private joke we used to pass around. If you were a female black veteran, all you had to do to pass the exam was show up, sign your name to the exam, and walk out of the room.

I don't think we were far off the mark. wink.gif I suppose adding 'disabled' to the list means WMNNA. (White Males Need Not Apply.) cwm27.gif

White disabled vets would qualify for the extra points. If you don't understand that, then it's pretty easy to see why you didn't score high enough on the test to get a job. cwm40.gif
