aneary
I was fishing Eastern CT yesterday afternoon. There were a few small schools of large bunker on the beach. The bunker had some very nice size bluefish keeping them pinned against the beach, the bunker were daisy chaining in a very nervous fashion. Every once in a while a couple of these bluefish would charge the school, the blues were between 10 -15lbs. I'm walking along the beach and see a large shadow, at first I thought it was the pod of bunker but then I get a good look at it (its perpendicular to the beach,in about 2-3 feet of water ) and its a striper / torpedo/ monster. It had to be close to 4 feet long. I yell over to my buddy and he just says wow(never saw it). Later on he's hooked into one of these 12lb bluefish and of course there are like 3 -4 other blue fish chasing it, when he says "holy crap" look at this monster trying to eat my bluefish. Same striper, staged behind his blue , looks to be trying to swallow it. I can't remember ever seeing a bigger striper still in the water. We probably should have livelined a bluefish for this thing. as we continued landing blues this mosnster would periodically show up to see what's happening. Awesome sight, I would have loved to get it on a boca to see whast it really weighted out at.

EBHarvey
The biggest bass I've ever seen by far were following hooked blues in. I prefer peace. But if trouble must come, let it come in my time, so that my children can live in peace.

Soundfisher
Let Westhavendave tell you the story of the bass that ate his bluefish (yak-side) and took off. Â He still convulses when he thinks about it. Kikkoman Pro Staff
IanCT
WesthavenDave, please do tell. I saw a good 48"+ plus bass this year in RI on a salt flat chase after my sluggo, turned when she saw the boat, nonetheless it was a heart dropping experience. westhavendave
I still have not seen a bigger fish in person than the "one that got away". I was actually fishing from a high jetty and watched the bass come out of some thick weeds and take the blue. I had much looser lips about locations back in those days as well, we all did. Hardcore
I saw my biggest striper about 12 years ago. my cousins from texas where visiting they had never fished before. so we where dunkin chunks when the drag starts singing I tell my cousin to set the hook and he sets the hook the googan way and whacks it back like five times he managed to hook the monster and I fought it till it got close enough for me to see it. and the it spit the hook . I didnt sleep for 3 days thinking about that fish. In my mind it was a 50#.now that i know better it was provably wasnt. I havent caught a fish that big yet and thats why I still fish today. I'm 1 post away from being an Internet sharpie
Artificial all the way
Bass eating Blues. Crazy stuff. Â A guy in a boat drifting live bunker next to me nailed a 49" this summer. this was right after I unhooked my PB 47". Â My largest seen was 54" from what the com netter said. He caught it in his dragging net. This thing was just silly it was so fat. I would have traded my left nut to hook that thing. Must of been sleeping to get stuck the slow draggers net. I kept fishing near him hoping he was going to toss it over. Never happened. Capt Jay is Hooked on plastics

Albiemanmike
I had aguy fishing with me a couple of years ago and he hooks a 2-4 lb. bluefish. He is fighting it and then sayd look at that fin behind my fish. There is a large dorsal fin behind his Blue and it is beelining it. The blue is making like a bunker and swimming in frantic circles. I tell him flip the bail and let the blue go. As soon as he does that the blue takes off and the bass is in hot pursuit. After several crazy circles trying to get away the bluefish finds out what it is like to be on the wrong end of a bass mouth. We thought it was much larger than it actually ended up being. 37-38" but it ate the bluefish and popper it was hooked on. That bass you saw was significantly larger than that one we had and you really should have live lined a bunker to him while hooked up to one of those blues. Could have been the new WR bass. There was a 68 lber. taken earlier around your waters by spear if you remember so it reasons that she wasn't the only monster swimming around them there waters. Man I was getting tingly just reading your report.......WHEW! Michael Mayo"I work so I can Fish!"
aneary
It's great to hear the stories keep em coming. I was fly rodding at the time and my buddy was bringing in the blues and I was trying to get his friends to take the fly. Had a couple chases but never got tight. I would have loved to hook this monster with the fly rod but with the 8 weight, I was a little undergunned. Â A few years back I had a similar situation , small pod of bait fish cruising back and forth on the edge of the same beach, I cast a curf candy just out beyond them. As I'm stripping the line in, it "hangs up". Then in a very slow methodical manner the line just starts heading out, no urgency just kept going. I'm holding on trying to figure out what to do to stop this thing, so I start heading up a rock wall that runs perpendicular to the beach. Fish got out about 100 yds and came unbuttoned. I never saw it but it was 1 of 2 stripers I have lost that I would really want to get a look at. Â Of course there aren't any fish in CT these 2 were just visiting from RI.
