In RI the Francis Fleet out of Point Judith/Gallilee runs a daily tog trip. They're on the web.

Was on the FF today. They said no hooks or sinkers for personal rods. I brought my own rod and didn't have any problems with free gear. Thier rods do NOT come with braid most I saw were ~30lb Mono. Today was great!! I punished them I got 2 8lbs a few 6's and handed out the rest after I limited. Actually the whole boat did great 78 people (***! they said that kinda weekday turnout was a fluke, yesterday was 21) almost everyone had multiple keepers. Two 11's and 2 10's were the brutes of the day.

View Postdo you guys bring your own rigs and sinkers? Their web sites just mention you get free bait and you can rent a rod. Do their rods come set up w/ braid?

They would only supply braid if they wanted their mates to commit suicidekooky.gif. I heard Frances Fleet has been doing great with tog, i have a few classes with one of the mates on there and he said its been very good.

I ran 30# braid with about 5ft of 30lb mono leader when we were on rockpiles. I clipped my leader and ran staright braid when we hit mussel beds.

Tip: Know your tide strength and currents before you go out. they will saddle you with a 8oz or 10oz sinker just because. If it isnt necessary go with less weight. i caught one after the other when I changed from an 8oz to a 4oz and then a 6oz when the tide started to pull harder.

20# mono is a bit light IMO, esp. if you're going to be fishing wrecks. On mussel beds or scatterred rock bottom, you'll have a chance at putting some fish in the box with 20# mono, but if you're fishing over anything more sticky, you will probably be spending the majority of your time re-rigging while every one around you is fillling their coolers.

I would go with a 7-8' rod rated for 20-40# line and 40# mono.

Good luck!
