silverking448
Picked up my 1st decent fall fish. 13 lb. Bluefish from the beach. Short and stubby but with broad shoulders and a big head. Also 1st powerful fish caught on a new Van Staal. Impressed by the drag. Caught the big guy on a slab of fresh bunker on the edge of a bar. Finally a nice bend to the rod. Things have been slow in Ocean City NJ until recently.
Fishtale7
Chunking with a VS? Why not use a "regular" reel for slinging meat?? - Life is a waiting room, I hope they don't call me soon...... - Thomas Jefferson - "The course of history shows that as government grows, liberty decreases" - Our flag doesn’t fly because the wind that moves it. Wiseguy
Chunking with a VS? Why not use a "regular" reel for slinging meat?? Who cares? The rod has more to do with your method of fishing than the reel. Congrats. What about guys slinging eels...they're bait No, VS are not pluggin specific reels. VS are super expensive and can cast and retrieve the same way as a NonVS reel. Eric_S
A blue in the teens is always good for some fun. Who cares what brand reel he uses. But I do think a reel with a bail would be easier to baitfish with.

Eric_S
I just said that I would think it would be easier to bait and wait with a bail. If you do it successfully, great!

Beachbuster
As long as you had fun who cares what you were using. If you had more fun because it was a VS and you liked the way the drag worked, more power to you. This site is supposed help you catch more fish, just like it says on the home page. Just go out and fish and have fun, don't worry about somebody picking on your your equipment. Tight lines!
