Braid on a crack 300?

Anyone use braid on these old reels? Do the reels/roller need to be modified in any way? What kind of braid do you use?(that is if braid can be used on these reels)

I wouldn't. I used 25 lb mono on mine and that was plenty of line with plenty of strength.

I used to use 20 and/or 30 lb Tournament Ande on my Cracks. The last time I spooled one of my 300s, I went with Fireline. If you pay attention to keeping the roller clean and lubed you won't have a problem with Fireline. True Braid (Power Pro or Suffix for example) might be problematic given the original rollers on Cracks. I would bet that a modified roller could be machined that would allow the use of braid.

I have been using braid on Luxor/Crack reels for several years. Have not had any difficulty. However, I am using a carbide roller. I don't know how the original stainless roller will hold up.
