Penn Medallion glue?

Anyone know what Penn used to glue metallic medallions to greenie reels?

 

Any ideas for getting one off?

Those medallions are thinner than you think. I would try heat from the backside of the plate??? Slowly to loosen up the glue/epoxy and try to slide the medallion off. It is probably an old one and very brittle.

Yeah, I was thinking heat, but if it is brittle maybe I ought to just work around it doing the paint stripping.

I have removed a couple using a hair dryer as a heat source and put them back on using contact cement glue.

I had a penn emblem that i applied clear nail polish around the circumference after i epoxied it and that was about 20 yrs. ago and i never had a problem.

Whatever you do, don't use the same glue that Penn did originally.

Use contact cement to attach the emblems.

I used the hair blower. I had to get it pretty warm so it took a while. I also had to use a thin bladed knife to slide underneath the medallion - very carefully so as not do damage it. But, it worked great.

 

Thanks for the heads up. I think I will run some tests with glue before I settle on one to put it back on.
