mako20ft
Hey there Mr. Dunlop, Can't make it out in the pics...what's the line capacity and what do you have on the reel now? Looking for my spouse to cast for bay stipers and blues. Dutch The wheels on my reels go round and round...round and round...round and round... RegDunlop
I have 12 lb Berkery Big Game mono on it. 8lb-300yds 10 lb-250yds 12 lb - 225yds The 712z is an excellent reel for Stripers, blues weaks fluke etc. It is the same reel as a 710 except the rotor cup and spool are differnet (much in the same way a 704 and 706 are the same ). The 712 is small but in no way inferior to any of the other Z series, it is just as bullet proof as the rest of the Z reels that Penn produced. if we're looking for a shark we're not gonna find him on the land
mako20ft
Thanks for the PM...hope all finds you well and I'm really glad you like the VS Bag. My wife likes casting with the PP braid because of the lack of stretch. In general, are these Z series reels braid friendly? Next, the reel appears to be about the same size as a Mitchell 300 (which I literally grew up on)...is that a fair comparison? She's cast several of my 300's and has remarked that size or slightly larger seems just right. Ok, last of the 3 questions and I'll leave ya' alone . My 302's have been made bailess. Is that an option on the 712Z? So... 1) Braid friendly? 2) Relative size? 3) Bailess option? Thank you very much for your help. I know the questions may seem a bit much but those 3 months of unemployment took it's toll. This is the last of any fun money available. Slick706
712z cannot be bailess unless you cut the bail. I have done it but you have to cut the bail down short, dont cut it at the wire part where its thin, you have to cut it where its thicker and file it down. I got my line caught on it when i left it longer. I cut it shorter and the problem went away. here is what i mean when i say cut it, but its a pic when it was long and had the problem, i cut it shorter since then, about 1/2 the size it is now. The 712/712z is a bull of a reel, its a med sized reel that packs a punch.
