Problem with slosh30 help

When reeling in the reel shakes back and forth a little too much for my liking - it sits on a tsunami 12' 6-10 oz light heaver its kinda a skinny stick (Econo). I am under the impression the rod might be too skinny - if this is true what do you folks suggest. Thanks

the reel sits in the reel seat plenty tight - the whole combination rod and reel move back and forth while reeling in -its not loose

That big gearbox on the cranking side is throwing the outfit out of balance. It wants to twist to the right on you. A Slosh 20 would have probably been a better fit for that rod.

I don't know of an easy way to fix it. It's a good example of why one should always try a reel on a rod before deciding to buy it, although I recognize that often it's impossible.

Hold the rod ahead of the reel so you can level it with your thumb, but have your wrist against the sideplate of the reel to steady it. That is a wide reel and it's a long way to the handle knob so you have to cradle the reel to keep the rod from moving. If you use it for a while it will become natural. The "balance" of the rod has nothing to do with it, it is just a stick with your reel attached to it.wink.gif

A thin grip ahead of the reel is handy because you have to hold it with just your fingers (your thumb will be busy). I like a reel seat with the threaded part below the reel so that I am gripping cork tape instead of threaded plastic while retrieving. Most factory conventionals are set up the other way for some odd reason.headscratch.gif

View Postloud and clear - i really like the reel. what should I be looking for in a rod that will work better . what rod eszctly is balanced well with the slosh 30

Then the answer is simple--take your reel to a shop, find a rod that it feels right on, and then buy that rod.

Loud and clear enough for ya?

Others have posted about a "rocking motion" when reeling in due to gearbox location, which for some, adversely affects cranking ergos.

I have been trying that with some luck when just reeling the line and seems to work well. I guess that's just what you do with the larger size reel - changing the stick wont change the way it behaves -Its an ergonomic function. I'm going to agree with ya - so I dont think running out to be a new stick will solve the problem at all and the balance factor is a non issue-

I've been surfcasting all year with a 20V. It's a little narrower but has the same "way out the side" handle. I thought it was very awkward until I realized how much line I was pulling in with each crank. I've seen the Saltist and ordered one. It is basically the same reel with the gearbox shifted forward, infinite anti reverse and a smaller frame. My 20V will live in the bag as a backup. The Daiwa is the first reel I've gotten a whole season out of with no problems of any kind.wink.gif

Now ya tell mebiggrin.gif

With conventional setups, the reel and line are always trying to get below the rod.

Listen to Stewies suggestions about how to hold the rod.

You will have to play around with this and find what feels best for you.

One thing when using this kind of tackle, is to use the smallest reel you can that suits your quarry and line's test.

It is no fun fighting your tackle when you could be enjoying the fight with the fish.smile.gif

Yeah the reel is a beast - I like it though and it has been a challenge to figure out what is normal. Its my first conventional for the surf all my other conventionals have been for a boat and the whole experience is different. I juststarted to makethe reel scream when throwin it - wicked coolbiggrin.gif so know iwhen reeling the line in how to handle it. thanks
