charloots
Near or far these stories are sad: SUMTER, S.C. - Police in South Carolina say a 12-year-old boy out trick-or-treating for the U.S. Halloween holiday was killed when a convicted felon fearing a robbery fired nearly 30 rounds with an assault rifle from inside a house. Sumter Police Chief Patty Patterson says T.J. Darrisaw died Friday evening after being shot multiple times. His father and 9-year-old brother were also shot, but were treated and released. Quentin Patrick has been charged with murder and assault and battery with intent to kill. Police say the 22-year-old ex-convict told them he had been robbed and shot before. Police say T.J.'s family attended a Halloween celebration and then stopped at Patrick's house to ask for candy because the porch light was on. Two other siblings were with them but weren't hurt. jigger
That's simply aweful. I hope when the guy goes to court. They put him away for life. I know once the general population gets wind of what he did. His life in prision will not be a long one. SOL #

Plug and teaser
Just horrible and heart wrenching. Very sorry to hear. Where abouts in Western ma. and any links? Here's the story Skitter. Always sad when young ones are involved, with the gun show accident last week, this town has really take it on the chin. Top Story H WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A city's in tears following a Halloween night that ended with two lives being lost. Roberta Salois and her 9-year-old son Steven were about to end their night of trick-or-treating together. At around 8:15 Friday night, the mother and her son were crossing South Maple Street when they were struck in the southbound lane by a car. "I heard the impact from my house and it was terrible," said neighbor Ron St. George. "There were a bunch of people next to the boy. I don't know if they could do anything for him. One of the neighbors down here was trying to resuscitate the mother," said witness Kenny Taylor. The 47-year-old died at Noble hospital, Steven died at Baystate Medical Center. Police took the driver, 26-year-old Anne Schlichtig, of Westfield in for questioning. It's not yet clear how fast she was going. The posted speed limit in the area is 25 miles per hour. Those who live off Route 10 and 202 complain speeding is a problem. "Every three to four days there's an accident here, people driving too fast," said neighbor Mary Phillips. In an instant, a mom and son's lives were taken. Roberta adopted her only son several years ago. The fourth grader leaves behind many classmates at Juniper Park Elementary School. His mom leaves behind many siblings, who wished to grieve privately. Report by Anthony DiLorenzo, WWLP
bospa357
And, according to Fox News last night, this same woman that was killed in Westfield, endured her nephew being hit and paralyzed on Halloween night back in '91 or '92 only about a mile from where she and her son were hit. Very sad indeed.

RIP to the victims.

Im sure there is probably plenty of blame to go around here, it's the same road that GaryK had his bad accident last year, maybe 10 miles North or so. It's one of those spots where a fairly major road drops into a residential area, you could stand there for a week and never see anyone going the posted speed limit. The mother, the driver, who knows, maybe both weren't thinking. Tragic for sure.

GaryK
I live on 10/202 but about 10 miles south in Granby Ct, and as P&T says I had a back accident on a stretch of 10/202, but that was at a section where the speedlimit is 50. It is a very busy road and the speed limit ranges from 50 mph to 25 mph. I believe this tookplace near the center of Westfield where the limit is closer to 25 mph. There are stretches where you feel like you're out in the boondocks and can push the speedometer, and then suddenly you're in a residential neighborhood. I feel for the family. Just terrible. TimS
a convicted felon fearing a robbery fired nearly 30 rounds with an assault rifle from inside a house. . I thought convicted felons were not legally able to own firearms? TimS Show someone how to catch striped bass and they'll be ready to fish anywhere. Show someone where to go striped bass fishing and you'll have a desperate report chaser with loose lips.
