starsandstriper
Has anyone tried to put a grease nipple on a 704 or 706. I think it would be a pretty good idea if you put it in the right spot so that it was out of the way. The biggest problem that i can forsee is that it would be an extra place for water to get in. IDK if there are one way grease nipples or anything, but if so, than that could possibly solve the water intrusion problem. I am just looking for an easy way to grease up a reel without disassembling it. BTW i know that there is already an oil port on the reels, but i need a way to get some heavier grease in there. Just thinking out loud here, feel free to add any and all thoughts. Thanks, Jimmy FISH ON!!!!!!! I like turtles Ditch troll once again
starsandstriper
just did a search and found another recent thread on this topic. But the other thread never gave a definite conclusion. there was the issue of pressure inside the reel brought up, but i think that that could be solved. and the only other reason against it was that the old grease wouldnt get cleaned out. However, that wouldnt bother me, as a little new grease added to some old grease is better in my opinion, than just a little old grease. FISH ON!!!!!!! billfishhead
just takes three screws to get the sideplate off of that old reel. probibly needs looking at and cleaning out
starsandstriper
I'm aware of ho many screws it takes, thanks. I'm just curious if there is a way of ensuring that grease is well packed in the housing before a good session that may include dunkings. I know that the best way is probably to just disassemble it, but when i fish up to 5 nights a week in the summertime, and work the rest of the time, i need a way of keeping it greased in between its weekly rebuild. Billybob
I think it sounds like a pretty good idea, I believe the grease fittings have a ball and spring in there and you can get them in stainless, you can maintain pressure in the reel to help with water intrusion. Go for it.
GoBow
It should be a simple drill and tap to install a zerk fitting into the sideplate. Go for it. An 8 oz sinker and a bunker head will only fly so far...

stresst
havent done it yet as im waiting to get the 704 i bought almost 2 weeks ago on the bst forum. and my dad wont let me touch his cause he says its older than me Who did you buy it from? If you are waiting 2 weeks for a reel I would let Tim know. There seems to be some problems with a few bad apples there lately. It should be known who to stay away from. Good luck hope everything works out for you. As far as the nipple goes I think its a good idea. But once that housing is "maxed" out with grease dont think your gonna need more till you disassemble and remove the old rite?
billfishhead
where do you intend to put it ? on the sideplate would be using the most inexpensive part
starsandstriper
i think the sideplate is where im gonna put it. i talked to the seller, and im getting the reel or my money back, but either way im gonna get a 704 to do this to.
