Inappropriate delete and responses, Tim S and Plug

I think your deletes in other forums and both yours and Plugs response to the request of a new member for pictures of a fish caught by their spouse disturbing and not appropriate beatin.gif .

The only violation I might have seen was the e-mail link in the post. Could'nt have a simple change to p-mail me instead of the e-mail link saved you both the embarassment of this?

Plug's assumptions and comments do not speak for the majority of the fishermen here kooky.gif . Poppy has expressed an opinion that a ray is certainly a highlight catch and to cadly state that you must be a tourist to want to take a picture of a ray says mouthfuls about the many here who have posted their catches of this magnificent creature right here on this website.

Just a suggestion for both of you, start deleting the posts that I reported. There was no doubt that a specific locations on Assateague were being burned yet it seems that it is now OK to do that frown.gif .

On second thought, put the admitted poachers here on the spot and respond in a way that says Stripersonline.com does not condone their actions. Pappyal's admitted poaching of herring in a thread started by Steve Coleman deserved a stern response yet moderators and Tim S said and did nothing redface.gif .

On third thought, let Plug moderate the "Poacher's Forum" as he feels it is OK to guide people to violating Marylands rule of snagging fish. There are a few species that can be "intentionally snagged" in that state cwm15.gif but bunker is not one of them.

Looks like you have no shortage of issues with things as they are here, but just to deal with those your topic title is directed to for starters... There is nothing that was remotely "inappropriate" about deleting multiple versions of the same post scatter-gunned across a half dozen of the forums here. We don't allow cross-posting of that sort for any purposes and it was quite nicely handled and explained to the poster by Tim Surgent who - among other things - happens to own this website where you - and all of the rest of us - are guests.

Plug's explanation could hardly have been more decently worded and I could not have agreed with him more. He simply laid out the facts - and very clearly and decently so in his excellent post....

"You're not likely to get a response. For a fisherman a ray is rather commonplace and not many who post here would bother taking a pic of one that a stranger caught. Tourists yes, fishermen doubtful.

But I wouldn't worry too much about it. Come back in the summer next year. Fish a big old chunk of baitfish on the bottom and odds are he'll catch a bigger one."

Plug did the lady a service in explaining the high unlikelihood of any of the fishermen who post and participate here taking pics of a ray someone else beached, and he ended on a positive, encouraging note.

You are quite correct Johnson. Maryland code does not include menhaden in the list of legally snagged fish. Due to the commonality of the practice it never occurred to me it is illegal in MD. My bad. Since I do not condone unlawful conduct I shall refrain from instructing in its methods when it is apparent they may be used in MD tidal waters.

.01 Methods of Fishing in Tidal Waters.

C. Fish Snagging.

(1) Except as provided in §C(2) of this regulation, a person may not snag fish in the tidal waters of the State.

(2) A person may snag carp, garfish, skate, bullfish, shark, oyster toads, swelling toads, sting rays or any other ray fish by means of hooks in the tidal waters of the State.

Plug, I have seen Wieghted trouble hooks made specificly for casting into schools of bunker and have read about people using them in NJ and LBI in NY. Is this meathod allowed in DE? I used to snag and release big carp at west street falls in the Brandywine river in Wilmington just for fun using this method. Thanks, Charlie

View PostJust because I am in a rambunctios mood, I will chime in with the TOTALLY IRRELEVANT information that snagging bunker is common practice in RI. In fact, for some of us it's the only fishing we get to do some seasons!mad.gif

FishAgain...I hear u. Sometimes, along the Delaware coast, the only living creature I see, besides the flying rats, (gulls), are schools of bunker....and an occasional skate.
