Wurk2Fish
Welp...gonna try my hand at surf-launching and out-front fishing tomorrow off LBI...flat as a lake out there!!! Reports are looking good here and there from WW to PP!!! Fish are here...weathers cooperating...I'm gone!!! Laid-off from my job Wednesday.....6-7 months.....if the boating industry can even make a comeback that fast I don't think so....anyways......what better way to lift the spirit than to go feeshin'!!! Look for a new job next week Hopefully a good report to follow!!!!! W2F

Shipwreck
W2 Would not be the worst thing in the world to start doing your cooler racks again. I have never seen prettier. I dont want to go over the top, but you do for cooler racks, what green machine does for surf bags. With gas coming down, and more folks forced to the beach, my guess is you will pick up alot of work. When I get my new truck you are on the necessary mod list As for the front, my advice is to pick a W wind day and practice. Be ready to get wet, leash everything and have fun. If you want to come up to Central NJ I would be happy to spot you. I would drive around, look for the opprotunities, and hit them when they show up. Pack light, 2 poles max. Very little tackle. Good luck, you will be fine. Git er done. "He's a good stick" - Mr. Miyagi" ~ "Yep!" - Captain Dingo "How are you doing that" - Jimmy the Mate ~ "Shipwreck is one of those guys!" - Capt. BillDude
Ya what Ship said, west wind should flatten the surf zone... that's what usually gets ya. And make sure your stuff is secure. But once your beyond the break your good to go. But I did manage to flip my boat yesterday and lose some stuff. Here's my post of my F-up. http://www.stripersonline.com/surfta...d.php?t=621810 The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope. Work died last year for raks.....nobody's lookin' for the "big-ticket" raks like I was doing em.......and it just wasn't worth doing anything less....I.M.O. My replacement is Norm's Welding in Lacey Township OUTFRONT..........boy the perspective from the beach is way different than when ya get out there Launched from 30th St. Barnegat Light before the sun cracked the horizon......made it through the 1-2 ft. waves with no problem....took one over the bow as I was gettin' going......little water in the face and BAM...I was outside the break. Wind was SW at about 5-10 Kn........swell was from the SE at about 2-3 ft. and 10 sec. apart....soooo I start paddling out to deeper water....'bout 200 yds.....then North...stop and drop two Conventionals over with X-Rap Brokin' backs...put an Ava on the spinner for quick drop to marked fish and was prepared for a quick-change to top-water action if the situation presented itself.........heading north...marked a few fish near the bottom in about 22 ft. water here and there....no takers! Trolled up to about 1/4 mi. from the South Jetty and spun her around...lotta boat traffic up that way! Meandered South and was worried sick about getting in through the surf the whole time which made for an uneasy trip out!!! Plus not having anyone with me didn't help either....thought I could go it alone....guess I'm a backwater-man And to top it all off...as I was packing away gear for the trip in....I start getting sea-sick...ON A KAYAK!!! I almost blew chunks...LOL!!! Guess I better take dramamine next time Headin' in.......lookin good...feeling better as I'm moving again.....through the first few swells welling up....miss one wave....got lucky! Next one got me though......felt like I was on Hawaii-five-o or somthing.....Yak turned to Starboard I leaned into it and dug the paddle in(on the wrong side....(shoulda dug it to the left)..........slammed the rudder to port.....and wala....I'm beached......jumped out...then the yak takes a near roll...dumps all my plugs into the surf...glad they all float!!! Got 'em all back...successful first ocean voyage....nothing lost...nothing broke!!! 2-1/2 hr. roundtrip Maybe one day I'll try it again and take ya up on that offer Shipwreck!!! BillDude
W2F, The littlest of waves can flip you when landing, throwing your ass-end around and flipping you. I find it easier to back the boat in when landing. That way you can see the waves coming and you can paddle/pedal into them if they look like they may "take you out". Then in the lull, paddle backwards towards shore. Might be a video on this somewhere The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope. Shipwreck
We will be doing another surf launch clinic this may or june. The last one was very well attended and we ended up doing it twice. I know that feeling of worry thinking about the landing. Your anxiety prolly is what got your stomach upset. Usually I only have coffee and donuts in the belly at launch time and that makes for a sick tummy. The best remedy is to practice. We had some folks who attended and at first were too pensive to even pull the boats off the racks. Then as they saw with a few simple tips how easy it is, they started. Next thing we know they are borrowing each others boats and TRYING to flip them. Like anything else, you can describe it, you can research and memorize, but until you do it, you didnt do it Pay attention to KFS and remember the classes are free.
