Just blew up my '02 Evinrude 225Fi, powereful/fast, had its share of minor issues. Overall I liked it, 1600hrs consistantly got 2.75-3MPG. I'm OK with loosing some performance going Honda what I'ed like to know is what to expect for fuel useage. It will be hung onto a '98 Mako 221 CC, 20 degree deepV thats about 3000lbs dry. Input appreciated, X

A friend bought a new Mako WA about 2 years ago, with the Honda on it. I think it was about a 24' boat. Well, this season he was so tired of the poor performance (hole shot and top end) that he decided to take his lumps, and swapped it out for a 250 Etech. Big difference.

I have a 08 225 honda on a 21 Privateer and the engine has been rock solid so far . I went 32 miles and back out going 32 mph and only burned 21 gallons of gas . My 02 mercury 200 hp would burn 32 gallons plus oil . I have 130 hours on it so far .

Bill A----think my ride is much lighter.

scallop----recheck your math, thats less than 1.5MPG. that boat should be a modified V and getting better that 4 per gal.

He went 64 miles on 21 gallons and that is just over 3 MPG.

Check the annual maintenance cost first. I don't remember which 4 cycle brand, but one of them had really high costs.

I looked at my log book and my math was correct . I went 64 miles on 20 gal. at 32 mph . My old optimax did it burning 28 gal. at 28mph . The new honda is a great so far . My friend has the 200hp honda with 300 hrs and its a year old and no problem, the engine is a tank !

I really thought the Honda would do considerably better than 3MPG. Keeping my '02 2cycle around 4200RPM I consistantly got 3MPG.
