I finally got an old green 711, now its time to fix it up smile.gif

First thing i am going to do is do the manual bail. WHile doing that i was thinking to myself, how bout changing the roller bearing. Its not really even a bearing, more of a bushing. Is it possible to take one off another reel, say a tica, one that is braid friendly and put it on the z?

just thinkin out loud smile.gif

You can still probably find the part in most shops. It's probably less than a buck--it's just a cheap plastic bushing.

Heck, you could probably take a coffee stirrer and cut it to size.

Putting a bearing in there---assuming you could find one small enough---isn't gonna change the way it lays line on the spool wink.gif

ive never seen that reel, how does it compare to the 704z, 706z?

i modified my 706z this weekend, got a lil creative with my dremel drill and cut out large drail holes on the bottom and three 1" holes alongs the reel wall. just waiting for the paint to dry. anyone have some pics of modified penn reels?

never thought of the line lay problem. Is line twist a problem with these reels also?
