RFA Update September 13, 2001

\tAs a result of the recent events we experienced a rush of emotions that include shock, anger, sympathy and mourning, for we all know someone who has been touched by this senseless tragedy. In our offices, the television kept on in the background tuned to CNN to keep up with happenings on Capitol Hill brought only images that assaulted our senses and numbed our minds. Everyone wanted so desperately to help our countrymen affected by this despicable act yet beyond waiting in line at local chapters of the Red Cross to donate blood there was precious little to do. The feeling of helplessness was, at first, difficult to shake.

Remarkably, within a matter of hours we were reassured by the incredible manner in which the people of this nation have once again come together in the face of unimaginable adversity and some of the helplessness and doubt were supplanted by a growing sense of solidarity with our friends, neighbors and countrymen and with the pride we all share in being Americans. It is that pride, that indomitable spirit, which makes it impossible for terrorists to conquer the American people. Our spirit and resolve cannot be broken.

We sincerely hope you and your families have not been personally touched by the horror we have witnessed in recent days. We cannot adequately express the gratitude we feel for the incredible bravery and dedication of the thousands of men and women from emergency services who continue to give of themselves so selflessly to help the victims, many having made the ultimate sacrifice. We pray God will grant them strength for the terrible job that lies ahead and that He will extend His open arms to all who have been lost. We will grieve and heal together, as a nation of people united by our mutual love of freedom. God Bless America!
