used to tap 14 trees in my yard and neighbors yard, 8 pure sugar maples the rest silver maples. I am right at the southern crest of where sugar maples are, 20 miles south of me the pine barons start. Was fun, a lot of work and used to spend all days outside boiling down the sap from the trees. Usually ended up with about 2 gallons of syrup. Burned a lot of wood. Now i just go to Costco.

I’m holding out tapping for a bit till next week.  This crazy non winter has everyone guessing up here.   Don’t want to tap too early but also don’t want to miss the good early runs.

its -9 this morning, supposed to be up in the 30s on Tuesday, then wicked cold again by late week.   Craziness.

we traditionally would tap right around Town meeting and the season would last till mid April.   Now it seems that it starts in mid to late feb and is done by mid March.
