525 mag question

I have been using this reel for about two weeks and I find myself keeping that magnet setting at slow. I am throwing plugs in the two to three ounce range. Am I doing something incorrectly or do most of you also have the mag set on slow?

What setting is "slow"? Is that with the magnets all the way "on" or all the way "off"? I never heard it mentioned as slow, but I'm guessing that means all the way on or having maximum effect on the spool during the cast.

That's pretty common with the 525Mag - it's a fargin' rocket outta the box, very few folks can control it in fishing situations without max help from the magnets. Some folks even add more magnets to have an increased slowing effect on the spool.

It's probably the fastest outta the box reel made and it's a wild one!cwm24.gif

The reel can use bigger magnets. It is very fast. Tres at Hatteras Outfitters does install larger magenets. Look around on Gorwge's board in Fla you may find out what to do. Check the polarity of the mags first I believe they shoud be +-+- and some timgs they are not. Some people also use heaver oil. You may want to try the later two items first.

go online to leevalleytools.com and order two 1/4" X 1/10" rare earth disc magnets.. they will simply stick onto the back of the black plastic mag carriage behind the existing mags by magnetic force... they are about 50 cents each.. with that small change, you can cast 30 # power pro (8# diameter) no problem..

it's simple and makes for a much tamer and enjoyable reel.
