Surfcasters are an ingenious bunch of resourceful crafty characters. `They find a way` to make it work and adapt it to their unique situations...

From the first cases of drilling out the spool cups of the old Crack Luxor reels to replacing the banana handles of the nautils with golf balls the crafty surfacster has constantly displayed his igenious resourcefulness to create custom parts and thingamajigs out of something else and apply it to make their reel a better reel...

Simple things like bail removals were the start... then drilling cups... then came some of my favorites `swapping handles` from other reels...ugrading drags and `water proofing reeling by dipping them in plastic dip and cutting away extra rubber for moving parts,, then refinishing reels chrome platings etc... then there are those outlandish Japanese upgrade parts that are right out of the twilight zone.. (they wents nuts in the 90s upgrading old penn spinfihers and 706s they handle upgrades that sold for more than the entire reel does here!)

Let us not forget entire body swaps and accurate upgrades...

Oils and bearing had their heyday and are still the classified `secret tricks of trade` ..

Now the new generation of magged Avets, Blue Yonders, 7500 class casters and Penn 535s are having their debut...

Yeah but there is more craftiness `out there` some stuff that will make ya say `now thats really neat` the Gold ball replacement for the banana handle knob on the Nautil is one of my all time favorites..

Then there is internal upgrades `GREAT STUFF` gears from that reel in the other reels and upgrade kits...

The sky is the limit...

So all OF you 704Z 706Z customizers whip out your UPGRADED reels and post those beautiful works of enthusiasm an enginuity and everyone else please share withg us us crafty talents and upgraded gems smile.gif

AJ, is it weird to have a crush on a piece of metal and plastic? It doesn't feel wrong...........

This is a new one in the collection. Jigmasters and 4/0's are some of the easiest reels to maintain and trick out. The 505HS has aluminum Newell support posts, base and clamp.

My go-to reel is a topless narrowed Tiburon-framed Newell 4:1 geared Pro Geared handled 4/0. The only things lefts stock are the rings, sideplates and a few of the internal parts. smile.gif
