The Mother of all Outdoor Shops

So, we went to Salt Lake City to visit some friends. They mentioned that there was a Cabela's Store nearby in the town of Lehi. I decided to go and check it out, and actually managed to talk my wife into coming! They don't really have much-if-any of a surf fishing inventory and the few items they happen to have, the staff knew little-if-anything about, but as an Outdoor Shop - well, it definitely took the cake! They were as big as an outdoor show! Hunting, freshwater fishing (both lure and flyfishing), a cafe that serves Elk and Wild Boar sandwiches (among others)...a massive aquarium room with some of the biggest trout I have seen in my life, as well as muskies, northern pike, etc. There were kids galore checking it out and the light bulb was coming on. They wanted to catch some of those babies! The people in the fly-fishing department were pretty switched on for both fresh and saltwater fishing, (although they had no striper experience whatsoever), and I ended up getting a few nice special purpose waist and chest bags at a great price.

Outside were the hunting dog training area (the plot of land was so big that you have to drive to them) and all of the various duck-hunting and drift boats. It's just a big Toys-R-Us for outdoors types.

On the way out the front entry (which shows only a very small part of the store) I had to drop on my knees and pay homage.

So, if you are ever have a long layover in Salt Lake City drop by the store, you won't be sorry.

Ditto for the Cabelas in Kansas City. I stopped there last year on business and was amazed at the outlet. The BPS outlets in Las Vegas and Denver are equally impressive.

the only downside is the lack of salt water specific gear (I guess the surf opportunities in KC-Mo are a bit lacking).

My cousin from Houston was in town and signed for my new waders from Cablelas. When I got home he goes "Man you'd flip if you went to the REAL Cablelas store in Houston cwm12.gif " That pics is great!

Great investing guru Peter Lynch put is ever so simply, "Invest in what you know" - well - we know fishing !

With that in mind and looking at the financials of CAB and knowing how much $$ this group here on SOL spends on fishing, and hunting, and camping. I would say that Cabela's has a pretty good growth potential.

Check it out
