Hey you guys,

Somewhere I read that there is a guy in the Bay Area, I think in San Francisco, that works specifically on reels. I have a couple of 6500 ABUs that I would like "up the action" on. Any help would be appreciated.

Cruzer I'm no help on this one. You might think about asking some of the easters about some guys back there. They do a lot of reel hopping up.

Winch,

I just got a PM from MV Sharkie and the reel guy's name is Alan Tani. I recogized Alan's name from the post I saw. He goes to shops a lot a gives demos and helps people with their reel problems. I'll look around and see if I can locate him. Thanks Winch and MV!!

Winch,

I just found Alan's e-mail. He wrote a post, "bearings, bearings, bearings", very recently in the "Distance Casting Forum". I just shot him an e-mail. I saw the name, as it is his "handle", but it was all run together as one word and I didn't pick that up. I never said I was my mother's sharpest kid.

Thanks again, Paul

For the record, I fish ABU reels of the beach almost exclusively unless I'm doing a little fly casting or testing some spinning reel. Out. I'm into older reels but for beach fishing rapid retrieve rate is important on those days that really have potential. But for surfcasting I see no reason to look further than ABU as they are a charm to fish and the same to service or soup up. I can tune almost almost any ABU if someone has one that needs attention. I'm in Santa Cruz, Ca. (didn't move here from Md. there are two Halcyons -- trying to get the forum gurus to work that one out) and can be reached at halcyoncustomfins@hotmail.com

I'm off to the beaches in the morning in hopes of enticing something that'll tax my very light gear. You never know...................?! ....... and maybe go for a surf if the condtions are right after the sun gets up in the sky.

Paul,

If you get a chance check out Jerry Foran from Florida, "Hookless" on SOL. Do a SOL search on "Surfslinger" - a guru on Abus - and you'll find info on Jerry to boot. This guy is a square shooter. Pm me if you have any questions as I just bought a couple of Abu reels from Jerry. He does a lot of quality custom work too. Batt
