Difficult decision. west coast Southern Oregon or Southern-Mid Maine.Originally a Mass resident fished the ditch and nauset to southern NH. Recently disabled/divorced looking to possibly moving back. What would be convienent area to get most opportunity fishing along southern maine coast.Looking at Saco-Portland area for a Manufactured housing park - good idea or not.

I know giving up salmon, steelhead ,elk but I miss the striper ghost what can i say. There is not a big following of stripers on west coast. Also Miss the 4 seasons NOTHING LIKE NEW ENGLAND

The ogunquit river holds stripers most of the season, it is here you get a decent outgoing tide and in coming rip- read: easy to fish with a fly rod or spinning gear. You also get the ocean front. Although very popular with tourists on the off hours parking is readily available. In NOV, DEC and JAN you also get sea browns. To the north you have moody and bidderford pool. Not to far from the south is Kittery point, RYe NH, great bay and of course the ditch is a 2 hour jaunt.

as far as finding a place to live there are currently plenty of for rent signs around- which I never recall seeing so many before.

Good luck

And I have one of those places to rent....actually biggrin.gif But it's about an hour North of Portland

It's a great area in general. Portland is just the right size city IMHO, not too big, and not too small. Fishing is really good and not crowed by any stretch of the imagination. I fish mostly from Freeport-Damariscotta and rarely see more then a few people if at all.

In the spring you get brows and others as soon as Ice is out, Striped ones show by Mothers day and the blues to come in some years as far up as the midcoast. Check out Mainetoday.com Our local paper, it has reports from last year that will give a good idea of what bites when.

Your toughest problem will be finding a job here. use the paper I mention or southermainehelpwanted in Google

Good luck icon14.gif
