Kinda off topic question to MA residents...rock climbing

Hey everyone...I'm not particularly interested in rock climing...however, someone here at work asked me if I knew of any indoor rock climing establishments in this state (I think because I fish, some people assume I'm an all around outdoorsman...LOL)...and she's not referring to the small scale walls they have at REI and Dick's up on the north shore. Can you guys help me out with that? She mentioned that she does know of a place in RI but wanted to know if there is anything closer. Thanks

There is a big indoor facility in New Bedford whose name escapes me. A privately owned place open to the public that is one of the biggest on the east coast.

Rock climbing. Just go down to the canal at low tide and try to make it down to the water. You'll get to walk on 2 different type of rocks. You get the dry ones. Then you get into the slippery ones that are worst then walking on ice. You need to watch out for the smaller rocks that move under the weeds. It's an adventure all it's own.

A good place to check for indoor climbing areas are college campuses, and YMCA's. It seems on average most of those places have one. --- Take it easy, good luck.

Carabiner's in New Bedford is a nice facility with locker rooms and is a good place for those less experienced climbers. There's also the Rhode Island Rock Gym which has a more experienced following and hosts competetions. Carabiners is more friendly to beginners, but offers all types of climbing challenges. I used to drive to Rhode Island to climb, but have since got out of the sport. I went to Carabiner's and was impressed, but the crowd there is more laid back...which can be a plus or negative depending on what your looking for.

The Quincy Quarries is another popular place to climb, but is obviously outside not a gym. The AMC offers programs to introduce new climbers at a reasonable price.

Boston Rocks in Woburn is good. I have climbed there in the past. From what I have heard the facility in Newburyport is pretty good as well.
