As a Plug builder/ Pinewood Derby car painter, I can attest to John's skills on both counts. In fact we have collaborated the last few years on the weight placement for best results. He knows his stuff icon14.gificon14.gif .

My son won 4years in a row. Trick is to put each axle in a drill and wrap a strip of fine black emory paper over it let the drill spin the axle against to smooth out. We checked out before and after under microscope and it was amazing. Then take wheel and axle and while holding end of axle spin wheel as hard as you can with finger shots. If the wheel spin freely and stops between 23-25 seconds you have a WINNER.No need for grafite and most good derbys ban that stuff but we have beat them all.Good Luck
