Zeno,

From what I have gathered a "Conrad" , circa 1950-1960 (Cape Cod) would be his earliest deep diving - super jetty plug. The surface swimmer and darter are amongst his other earliest productions.

Thank you Steve

I did not think he went that far back ....wow

I hope someone writes a book about the man.In a way ,I think a lot of his early stuff will be forgotten. Those who in the know are in fear of opening their mouths as not to offend ............whatever.

Its too bad....him and Mr.Stan Gibbs are fascinating individuals.Stan more that Danny as he had a longer track record and is responsible for most designs we use today.

It makes you wonder if Stan Gibbs and Danny Pinchney woke up from their graves...who would be the guy they would first give beating too?

Have to think that both would be very happy how plug fishing has progressed, and how the standard items stood the test of time. Mr. Stan Gibbs would be amazed at some of the prices that plugs are fetching these days-a good case for building your own, unless you know some premium plug builders??????????????????? Stan started with a knife, rasp, and sand paper and made it happen! Beatings would probably not be part of the agenda.

oh what good is a story without a beating biggrin.gifwink.gif

Danny would probably be most mad that 95% of people surveyeds can't spell his last name correctly biggrin.gif

I would love to no more about Danny as well. Other than Bassdozer's articles, there is not much on him (at least on the internet).

Yes it be nice to have a written history of Danny p.,,but having so much "you copied me"" no thats my style" bla.bla...that went on back then with 4 builder's living within a block or two of each other...I dought you'd ever get the real story from anyone. And if those in the know start telling,Im sure it would start WW3 with those who are still around....to bad.

That is what i am talking about.

The shame of it all is that Danny is badmouthed as a thief on regular basis with obviously no way of defending himself considering he has died many years ago.I wonder if this stuff would go on if he was around.Either way ,from everyone I talked to ,I never heard a bad word about him ,Danny seemed like a very nice guy who everyone liked .....well ,almost everyone.

You might be right capesams ,we might never hear the truth .......

From historical prospective ,Stan was definitely ""The Man" when it comes to plug design and innovation. No one really is even on same level with the man.Darters, bottle plugs ,polaris poppers all are basis on which most plugs are designed today.

Danny may unfortunately go the way of other great plug builders have once all those who knew him are gone. For many of the plugs from the 40's to 50's there isn't much more than the company name, the movement they made (by the boxes in existence with address changes), the plugs of course and some minimal history. Just looking back and seeing how tough it is to recreate the "company story" for many vintage plugs and companies would be reason enough to not let the same thing happen to the legacy of a person who was know by many still alive today. Just my .02.

I won't speak for Danny, but I think Stan would drive up to Cumberland, RI and give a thrashing to the guys currently ruining the reputation of his plugs wink.gif

For those of you that would like to know more about Danny, the person, there was a pretty good article written by Charlie Soares for a fishing publication. It was called "The original Danny, A day with the man and his plug." I think its still being offered as a reprint.

Do a Google search and you should be able to find it.

What is nice about it is that the author actually sat down with Danny shortly before he passed away in 1988 and got a Danny Pichney view of things.
