My next step is a chain sawheadscratch.gif . Anyway, a 1997 Hyundai Elantra, not a clue as to how to get the darn thing out. Any idears? No screws, plates or anything that are visible and I tried prying everything around it.

There should be a "bezel" (trim ring around the faceplate) that you remove and then you should see the place to put the removal tools. Do you have them? If not, you can get em at places like Autozone or your favorite supply house. Fairly common tool!

Whatever you do, be gentle, when you get it right, it should be pretty easy to pull it out of the dash.

Some cars have radio removal tools. It is usually a thin piece of metal that you slip down both sides of the radio to release whatever catch that is there. Once you slip them down the sides, you pull the radio out. I'm not sure what your particular has though.

Hard to imagine we have to begin with removing the heater control cable from under the dash, then you get to remove the gear shift cover and all the heating and A/C Controls, it gets more involved from there. Me thinks Best Buy can do the work. I guess they design them so the average Joe won't even think of working on it.

No surprise there Hfrown.gif,

I had a GM SAAB and everything was a hassle.

To replace a foglamp, you had to remove the bumper and cowl/airdam.

To replace the thermostat, ya have to remove the intake manifold. To replace the cabin filter, you had to take something else apart (I forget) and it was about a 1 hr job to do it. Rediculous!!

I love my older SAAB, but GM ruined the line and they are lemons nowmad.gif

Good luck with your rig!
