Have a 10' spinning and love it. Cost 180. Be aware St. Croix makes rods in China and the US now. At my local store the China 10' cost 120., the US made cost 180. That's for the "same" rod, same model number and everything.Bit the bullet and bought US, though my store manager said they were very comparable.

china is making everything now and it's all not poor quality. i'm not sure how you tell with rods.

i went into a furniture store and saw some incredibly beautiful designer, leather furniture. where's it made---china.

i have an 11' 6 st. croix conventional. just got a squidder to throw on it. i'm going out now to see if i can learn to cast it.

Chinese St.Croix is the Triumph line, stiff rod, lousy guides, paint peeled of mine in a few weeks, get the real Made in USA St.Croix or a real Lami. You get what you pay for in rods!!!!! Mine is just a loaner rod.

I have a a stcroix 3 piece tidemaster which is great for stripers in the 24 to 36 inch range fishing rivers, bay and surf, I also bought an 10ft st croix premier surf, which not only is extremely light weight, no line back lash and casts like a dream for surf. I can't imagine anything that could be better- I;m confident the Gloomis, private label LL Bean and cabellas stuff is right on as well.

I have had a 8'6 for two seasons and it is tough as nails and strong, strong. In the spring, I throw 4-6 oz clam rigs from the sods with it no problem, double the rating. IN the fall I plug 3 to 4 nites a week. It is at grumpys now as I busted a guide on a jetty. You wont be sorry, get the USA
