Shed Question....

Rate this topic

12 posts in this topic

I'm going to be getting a shed (8x14) in the spring , using it not as a shed but more of a small workshop. I plan on putting the shed on tubes and running power to it/ insulating it ...ect.

My question is this, what type of siding would you go with....Cedar , which is tongue in groove (I think it's 3/4) or vinyl , which is put on over 1/2 plywood. Both are nailed onto 2x4's that are 24" on center.

I'm thinking, what will stand up better over time? I love the look of the cedar...

Opinons please , if you've got a shed or not.

THANKS.

The options, from the shed guys were;

Cedar (tongue in groove)

1/2 ply with vinyl over it

or T1-11 (which I don't really like the looks of)

My concern was , which one will hold up to the weather (rain/snow) better?......Shed will be in the sun for most of the day, as well. And as I said, off the ground.

Keep it coming guys....

The cedar will give you many years of service.

I'm not a fan of vinyl and it really does not add to structural rigidity.

Ply, 15-20 lb tar paper ("felt") (skip the Tyvek as we have had rot problems out here at the beach) and the cedar siding. If you stain it, use a penetrating transparent stain. Solid body stains tend to peel after a while and with the VOC laws, the stuff ain't what it used to be!!

Have fun with the new shop, er um... Utility shed!!biggrin.gif

make sure its far enough away from the house so you can't hear the wife wink.gif

That's too funny!!biggrin.gif

I thought that was what a nice loud dust collection system was good for icon14.gif

Side it with metal roofing, comes in lots of nice colors and it will last forever. While your at it put on a tin roof too. To insulate it spray it with foam inside and you'll heat it with a candle !

No mater what you sheath it with go with the most economical and build the {{{ SHED }}} BIGGER!!! Before you start is the time to decide {BEG} how big you are going to build, my 24x36 shed wasn't big enough. cwm31.gif
